Do bacteria cells have a nucleus?
Hey there!
Bacteria are cells, otherwise it won't be living things. Bacteria, however, are not eukaryotic cells, meaning that it does not contain a nucleus. They are known as prokaryotes.
Other cells, like protists, fungi, plants and animals are eukaryotic cells, meaning that they do contain nuclei.
Hope it helps!
Reply:bacteria aren't cells, and no they do not, thats why they are called prokaryotes, meaning that they do not have a nucleus, as opposed to eukaryotes, which are like the cells in your body which do have a nucleus

Reply:A bacteria cell doesn't have nucleus but a nuclear region called a nucleolus. This area holds all the nucleic acids and takes care of the lack of other organelles by enabling it for a type of asexual reproduction only prokaryotes such as a bacterial organism can act in. This form of reproduction is called Binary Fission (simply splits in two). This works because the bacteria has few chromosomes to allow it to reproduce due to the lack of other organelles so the DNA coding won't take as long in Interphase.
Reply:I think all these people are wrong, bacteria are cells, maybe not a multicellular unti of life but nonetheless they are considered alive and to have such a label they must have at least one cell (cell theory). There are bacteria that can have a nucleus they would be the eukaryotes. There are also bacteria that do not have a nucleous they have an area which is where the chromosomes are. It is not considered a nucleous because it does not have a layer around it.
Reply:bacteria are prokaryotic, they do not have a nucleus. they do not have anything surrounding and enveloping their nuclear material. The nuclear material is found towards the center of the cell floating, not encased within a nuclear envelope. This is called an improper nucleus.
Reply:Bacteria do not have a nucleus. They are prokaryotes. Prokaryotes are cells that lack membrane bound organelles. The nucleus is a membrane bound organelle. They do have DNA, it is just not bound by a nucleus. If they had a nucleus they wouldn't be bacteria, they would be protists, which are single celled organisms with a nucleus.
