Hamster have bacteria dangerous for babies?

First, sorry for my english, but I need to ask this. I friend gave me today a hamster with his beautiful little house and all that stuffs... But I am a little afraid because I have a 4 month old baby and I am curious about if he (my baby) can be sick now. I am trying to find information online but I can't find nothing...

Hamster have bacteria dangerous for babies?
I'm a former breeder and now only rescue small animals. I haven't heard of any thing so far on this. Now pet mice you need to be careful of salmonella. You should be washing your hands before and after handling the hamster. This helps prevent the passing of viruses between both of you. Hamsters can catch our colds and we can catch theirs. Your baby is at the age now when teething can begin, so she may more susceptible to colds from you or the hamster. Make sure and not to have the hamster near the baby she may grab at it and it may bite from being startled. I wouldn't have any small animal around a child until they are at least 5-6 years old. This is part of my adoption policy.

Go to this link for lots of information from housing your hamster , care of it to illnesses and injuries.
Reply:Hamsters are pretty clean. Just wash your hands after you handle it. Don't worry, it will not get you or your baby sick.

You didn't find information about this because it is not a problem.
Reply:i agree with dragon lady just wash your hands and such
Reply:EVERYTHING will have bacteria. THe hampster, your babies rattle, the bottle (even boiled), YOU... In fact you will have many 100 times more bacteria that can make a baby sick since most diseases don't cross species.
