How are bacteria helpful to human?
1. on the skin, in the digestive systems to help prevent pathogenic bacteria from invading
2. decompose wastes
3. Some bacterial toxins are used in antibiotics Bacitracin, Polymyxin and Erythromycin
4. used in yogurt, sour cream and buttermilk (ie the "cultures" are bacterial cultures ) to "ferment" them
5. biotechnology and genetic engineering - can be used to make chemicals and pharmaceuticals, by inserting into them new genes that make them produce eg insulin, human growht hormones,
6. In agriculture, convert nitrogen from the atmosphere into a form plants can use, which then grow so we eat them etc
7. In oil spills, using bacteria that degrade oil and prevent contaimination
8. in drilling for oil in rock, can be used to help extract it more easily.

Reply:1.bacteria like rhizobium which are found on the root nodules of leguminous plants like pea, bean,etc help to transfer atmospheric nitrogen into the soil.this is called fixation of nitrogen. then the nitrifying and ammonifying bacteria change it into useful nitrogenous compounds which can be easily taken in by the plants.thus they help to make the soil fertile.
2.some bacteria are also used as biofertilizers because they improve the soil texture, structure and moisture retentivity unlike chemical fertilizers which pollute the soil in the long run.
3.bacteria are also used in bioremediation - repairing polluted areas, eg. in an oil spill, special bacteria are used to break up the oil
4.bacteria are also used to produce human enzymes and hormones by genetic engineering, eg. insulin (hormone of the pancreas which is lacking in diabetes patients)
