Why is bacteria classified as living cell and viruses are not??

for school tomorrow

Why is bacteria classified as living cell and viruses are not??
Viruses can only execute one of the functions used to determine "life": they reproduce. However, they do not react to stimuli, they do not have a metabolism of any sort, and they do not maintain themselves.
Reply:Because viruses cant multipy by themseves they need a host.
Reply:I'm not sure, but I think viruses are just a bit of DNA; they aren't actually cells.
Reply:Viruses need a host to reproduce, bacteria can survive by themselves.
Reply:Because viruses do not have a nuclei cell as does other " germs" ( Bacteria ). This is why is can be so difficult to treat a viral infection. Viruses can pass through a very tiny filter without losing it's potential because they did not a nucleus. Bacterial germs cannot pass through these filters because their nucleus is destroyed, thus preventing an illness. Does this make sense?? I thought that a basic explanation would be best. I hope that this helps.
