Small Intestine Bacteria Overgrowth (SIBO). Can anyone offer some insight please?

I have to undergo surgery to remove my appendix due to a mucocele. The surgery has to be treated as a cancer surgery although cancer is very unlikely in my particular case. As a result the lymph nodes and part of my bowel has to be removed. The doctor said that I will lose my ileocecal valve. I looked into this upon returning home and learned about SIBO and how it will likely result from the valve removal. the doc was pretty thorough in his explainations but never mentioned SIBO. My big problem is right now i'm not sick (asymptomatic) and if I develop SIBO it could make me sick regularly and affect my quality of life extensively. I can't be on regular antibiotics because i have kidney problems and can't risk developing a resistance to the meds in case i need them for the kidneys. One of the meds they use is the one they always use for my kidney infections. Can anyone offer insight to what living with SIBO is like and any long term treatments or surgical cures they know about? Thanks!

I'm really sorry that you have to go through this.

and now you have me scared as I have IBS and this article says that

Based on all the research, it is likely that somewhere between 40 and 84% of IBS patients may actually have this problem. (sibo)

I am sure you have read all the info on the web so I won't provide any more links, for my sake as well as yours.

I think I will just go and hide my head in the sand for awhile

I will say a prayer for you and hope for the best.

wish I could help you. maybe someone who actually has the disease will answer you. I hope so.
